Being a college student can be stressful and take a toll on your mental health. Luckily, the LSUS Counseling Services Department has a brand new way to help students who might be struggling.
The LSUS Counseling Services Team has recently launched a podcast called Say It Out Loud: Tackling Tough Topics Together. It is available on Spotify and Apple Music and is another way that students can connect with another and with the community.
The podcast will feature the LSUS Counseling Services team as well as students, alumni, faculty, and staff. They will be talking about a wide variety of both academic and non-academic related topics like stress and body image.
Angie Pellerin, Director of Counseling Services, had been thinking about launching a podcast for years. She feels it is so important for people to remember that it is not shameful to ask for help.
Pellerin said, “Talking openly about things we often hide from the outside world, and giving these things a voice, can bring them out into the open and let people know that they are not the only ones struggling.”
Alyssa Garza, a Certified Peer Educator and LSUS student, hopes that the podcast can open up a positive conversation surrounding mental health.
Garza said, “With more people tackling mental health, the more positive outcomes we will see in students in relation to their mental health.”
There are already 12 podcasts available for listening and many more are in the works.
Pellerin hopes that the podcast will provide a source of comfort for students and let them know that they are not alone in their struggles.
Be sure to check out the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts!
