Students may not know how to make their resume to prepare them for their future job, but thanks to LSU Shreveport Career Services they can put those worry to rest.
Kimberly Thornton, director of career services, welcomes any student walk-in who asks for advice on how exactly they should build and form their resume. Thornton will walk you through where everything needs to go and what you should include in your resume.
For students, there are examples of resumes that she thinks are the best made out resumes. If a student already has their own made out resume, Thornton will review it and make any suggestions she has on how that student can improve it. Students will be informed what changes need to be made and advice on how to save space on the resume so they can fit all, important information onto one page.
One crucial piece of advice Thornton will give is to state an objective in the resume. Stating what position one wants at what company will help the reviewer know why they’re even looking at the rest of the resume.
Another piece of advice is when stating job experiences to name the position, the name of the company, the company’s location how long one worked there, and list (in a bulleted form) the responsibilities one had at that job. These are just some of the advice Thornton has and there is much more to it.
