LSU Shreveport held its voter registration Wednesday, Sept. 7. Students were able to register to vote for the upcoming election, or make sure their information is up to date.

Angel Martin, Director of Student Activities and Recreational Sports, assisted students in this registration process during common hour.

“We want to encourage people to register and to give them information that they may not know is important about the upcoming election,” Martin said.

This drive was held to give students the opportunity to get registered before the deadline Tuesday, Oct. 11. The drive also served as an opportunity for students to get registered if they need to vote locally.

Voter registration is held at LSUS every four years. Registration is held when a high profile election occurs.

“We do have groups that come on campus and encourage people to register to vote other times, but we want to capture that excitement around a big election,” Martin said.

If you are unsure of who to vote for be sure to do your research. This research can include watching debates, looking at past voting history and viewing public records.

Martin advises voters not depend on Facebook registration events. She believes that Facebook leaves you open to too many comments and rumors that may or may not be true.

"The facts are out there and it is not necessarily easy to access all the facts, but there is a way that you can thoroughly look at each candidate,” Martin said.

If you missed voter registration you can register at geauxvote.com, the official Louisiana site. This site allows you to check your registration status, registration location, polling location and your polling ballot.

The presidential election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8. For more information you can contact Angel Martin at Angel.Martin@lsus.edu
