Honoring Legacy and Labor: Shreveport’s 37th Annual African American History Parade

The 37th annual African American history parade was held in downtown Shreveport on Saturday, February 1, 2025.

February marks the beginning of Black History Month, which is to highlight the key contributions that African Americans, past and present, have made to American society and celebrating African American culture.

The parade has been sponsored by former state representative Barbara Norton, which has been held in Shreveport every year since 1988. This year marks the 37th year of the parade, with the theme being African Americans and Labor.

The parade route starts near the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium on Elvis Presley Avenue and continues onto Milam Street, Market Street, Texas Street, Common Street, and finishes off on Milam Street. The African American history parade is significant to the African American community with highlighting African American culture and success, which plays such a huge role in our city, the state, and the entire country.
