LSUS Job and Career Fair Brings Opportunities for Students and Alumni

Story by Ash Hollis

LSU Shreveport students and alumni are invited to attend the Job and Internship Fair Wed, Oct. 5 in the University Center Ballroom. Over thirty different employers will attend looking for qualified applicants to join their team.

Jennie Flenn-McKevitt, M.Ed. Director of Career Services encourages students to explore their options. Employers are offering part-time, full-time and internship positions.

“For students who aren’t exactly sure what they want to pursue following graduation, a career fair offers them the chance to talk to many professionals across a variety of industries,” Flenn-McKevitt said.

The Job and Internship Fair will also have information about continuing education along with information about graduate and professional schools. Students will need to dress to impress and bring copies of their résumé to give to potential employers.

“Employers and graduate school representatives that I’ve spoken with love career fairs,” Flenn-McKevitt said. “It allows them an efficient way to evaluate talent.”

Flenn-McKevitt insists students come prepared by doing research on the participating organizations. “Elevator” speeches will also help applicants get the attention of employers.

“An elevator speech serves as an introduction to the employer and will allow someone to begin discussing how their skills and interests align with the company for which they want work,” Flenn-McKevitt said.
