The SAB Keeps it Cool at LSUS

Story by Victoria Horton

The Student Activities Board hosted their Join SAB Party on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016 at LSU Shreveport in the University Center. The meeting encouraged students to become involved in planning future activities on campus.

Angel Martin, Director of Student Activities and Recreational Sports, says that the budget cuts did not affect student activities.

“We are not funded through the general budget, we are funded through student activity fees,” Martin said.

While this year’s budget cuts did not affect the SAB, levels of student involvement were low.

“What does affect us is declining on [sic] campus enrollment,” Martin said. “Although our total enrollment is up, on-campus enrollment may not be.“

The SAB has coordinated several events for Fall 2016 to include a Week of Welcome and an 8-Ball billiards tournament.

“We pride ourselves on doing a lot with little funds,” Martin said. “Even if we have less funds, we are going to still have plenty of activities.“

James J. Bohn, Vice-President of SAB, aims to keep the goals of the SAB similar to those in the past.

“We want students to actually enjoy being at the LSUS campus,” Bohn said. “That’s basically what our goal is, always has been, and always will be. We just want to make student life better.”

If you are interested in joining the SAB, email the department at sab@lsus.edu. General members must attend at least three meetings, two events and be in good standing with LSUS. SAB meetings are held on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. on the second floor of the UC. For more information, see the student activities board page on the LSUS website.
