Success in the Midst of Chaos

by Shelby Willis

With closures across the state leaving many students unemployed, struggling, and stressed, students are at a loss for words on how to get through this chaotic time. On March 13, LSUS closed its campus to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, the university is not completely shutting its doors.

Due to a vast number of students lacking resources, such as computers and internet connection, LSUS administration and faculty decided to keep certain on-campus sites open for student access, such as the library computer lab. However, other resources students may utilize will be remotely available, such as the Student Success Center.

All services through the Student Success Center are available via email (success@lsus.edu), website (lsus.edu/success), phone (318-795-2486), and Moodle. Students can log into their Moodle accounts and access the Student Success Center on the homepage under the yellow sticky note. The online office hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Emails and voicemails will be responded to within these hours.

Online tutoring is available every day at any hour via TutorMe. Each student is allowed up to six hours of free online tutoring per week. Students may also participate in one-on-one tutoring with an LSUS peer tutor via a scheduled Zoom meeting. Academic coaching, workshops, and SI sessions will all resume throughout the semester via Zoom.

Even in the midst of chaos, LSUS strives to provide its students with resources to make them successful. With all classes being moved to online, students should remember to check their student emails every day and keep an eye out for announcements about additional accommodations.
