Head Coach Curtis Loyd, Pennywell win 13 straight
The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots basketball team is heating up and has no plans to cool down. Jan. 26, 2017 will long be remembered as the day the Lady Pilots captured their thirteenth straight win and set a new LSUS record for most consecutive wins in a regular season campaign.
The Lady Pilots worked hard on both ends of the court. LSUS senior Kourtney Pennywell, a recipient of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Player of The Week, tallied 18 points and 6 rebounds. Quiana Tucker also pitched in, adding 17 points and 11 rebounds to launch the Lady Pilots over the University of the Southwest Mustangs 84-52.
Lady Pilots point guard Johnesha Major remained humble despite the historic victory.
“It was good to beat the record but we still have a long way to go. We are still planning to continuing to grow as a team,” Major said. “Defense is a major part of our playing style and it helps create our offense.”
Head Coach Curtis Loyd prefers to keep his team focused on the future and reminds the Lady Piolts that there is still work to be done.
“No matter if it’s a big game or not, this is not the end. Yes, as a team they have accomplished more than any of the female basketball teams that have came through LSUS, but at the same time they are not finished,” Loyd said.
With the season halfway through, The Lady Pilots still have time to set new records and pursue a Red River Athletic Conference title. Jan. 28, 2017, Coach Loyd and the Lady Pilots will host the Langston University Lions, 3 p.m. at The Dock.
